The feedback was acquired by 27,587 expats from all over the globe, and the survey considered factors like average salary, cost of living, and work-life balance.

1. San Francisco
The average expat earning in San Francisco was €176,937, which makes sense as it has a booming economy and is renowned in the tech world. Most expats in San Francisco rated the city for fantastic job opportunities, and even though the cost of living is high in the city, the average expat salary here is the second highest in the world! Most expats claimed to be living a better life in San Francisco than their home country.
The average expat earnings in Amsterdam were €48,018, which might surprise you, but compared to other countries, expats have a 30% ruling, which means they only pay tax on 70% of their gross salary. Amsterdam has a lot of expat job opportunities, as nearly half of expats living in the city claimed. The average expat salary is lower than the global average, but the cost of living is on the lower side here.
3. New York
The average expat earnings in New York were €155,602, and it isn’t a surprise to find the city here, as it ranks consistently among the top expat cities. New York has a thriving financial center, Wall Street, and is a huge draw for financial professionals and bankers. Expat earnings in New York are among the highest in the world, but there were concerns related to work-life balance in the city.
